Integrated audio fuzzy, any way to fix/reduce fuzz?

I have a pair of stereo headphones plugged into a mono extension cable, plugged into my compaq evo mini-tower. It's fuzzy; it feels like I can hear the processor or the hard drive going whenever my computer does some work. Is there any way to fix this? I've already upgraded to the latest audio driver version. The computer has SoundMAX integrated audio.

sounds like the headphones or the wire isnt grounded properly. If you can hear sound slike the HD or processor through the headphones its definitely interference.

Does it do the same with using the exstension cable? try without, then also try using speakers instead of headphones.
