I have a customer that brought in a old monster server tower with a old 486 AT motherboard...

Anyway the motherboard is dead I told her I would find her something for the case like a P1.

Ok I have a used P1 AT board but when i swapped them out and got windows on it the only cards that work
with it are in the 2 PCI slots ... I put in the serial port card, modem, and sound card, windows "95" don't even recognise thier there.

Do you all have any suggestions on what my prob is?

I figure something is FUBAR and was wondering if anyone know if and where there could possibly be a Fully Integrated "AT" Motherboard?

Possibly under $40 if there is such a board. I got into Comps when P2 just hit the 400mhz mark and I don't know
as much as some of you would about past computers.

ISA cards? If they aren't PnP, Windows is not going to find them automatically. "Add Hardware" is your friend.

Thanks Peter

I have been working with it all day on and off getting tired of the way its doing theres no ps2 mouse just onboard com1 port that I hook a serial port up to .. I installed the serial mouse and it works only if you leave the printer port off of the com2 pins when its on them it also gives a com port error in post... among all that it is also freezing up at the end of the add hardware search and freezing also when I try to detect the modem.

Does anyone know if theres such thing as a fully or almost fully integrated AT motherboard. This machine is being a real pain in the ace any help what so ever will be apreciated. Thanks!

I've got several original pentium mobos with onboard ports, but I'll need more info on exactly what you need to determine if one of them will do the job.

For reference, in those days the IRQ and COM as well as LPT port settings were configured using jumpers on the cards - and you'd often have to juggle settings to get everything working properly. And sometimes a specific card would have some hardwired settings that conflicted with something on-board, and would never work properly in that particular system. So, as you can see, those days seriously sucked!

I would do a search for baby at motherboards on ebay. From what I remember, they should have the same standoffs. PCCHIPS M748 is a good solid baby at board with onboard video, modem, sound, USB, and some versions even have lan. It can run up to a 800 MHz intel CPU, and should run around $20. You'll need an AT keyboard (or adaptor) and it has dual support for AT or ATX psu. While this board is not for overclocking or tweaking, its rock solid and probably what this person needs (seeing they were using a 486).

Oh, geez, my heart bleeds for you. I wouldn't touch one of those dinosaurs. It would be cheaper for the customer to buy a brand new Dell than to pay for my labor.
