Integrate AD's LDAP with Outlook?

Is it possible to have Outlook (2000 & 2002) access Active Directory's LDAP service for resolving email addresses? Here's what I've tried so far, to no avail...

Added email addresses to the user property pages for several users in AD
Added LDAP account in Outlook as machine name (later tried IP address as well)

When trying to resolve addresses, all I get is the Check Names box stating "Microsoft Outlook does not recognize..."

I've searched through MS support, but haven't been able to find anything on it. Has anyone been able to accomplish this?
