i got a panasonic ac last year, unused, i think it's for windows.. i know if you want to put one thru the wall they sell modesl with wall sleeves, the call it....

anyone know of any universal wall sleeves...

do people ONLY put ACs through walls that are wall models?

My brothers new place has a unit in the wall that looks just like a regular window model.

Shrug.. lol

AFAIK, there's no such thing as a "wall only" AC. The window model you have will be just fine, as long as both the intake and exhaust sides are free and clear of obstructions.

The problem/trick is getting one that will fit b/t the studs in the wall. Some homes have 16" centered studs. Some are 18" and some are 24". Finding out what type you have is the trick. 😉 But a stud finder...unless you just really want to rip some sheetrock down. 😀

Once you figure out where to put it, you need to make sure it's supported in the wall as well. I.E. the top and the bottom of the sleeve are bolted to/resting on a cross-pieced of 2x4.

More Googling should provide more definitive help. Good luck though. 🙂

There are 2 kinds of apt type AC units: Window Mount and Sleeve Mount.

They are not interchangable.

Do not. I repeat. Do not put a window mount AC unit in a sleeve. You will burn it up fairly quickly.

Sleeve units are designed differently. Everything is in the back and it does not require side ventilation like window mount units.

This is true

its the panasonic cw-xc123hu 12k btu ,it's meant for slideout chassis so it can do walls... good

it does 500 to 650sq ft... which meets my req. kind of ..just that there are 8 windows and 2 rooms for this to cover... living and dining... and leads into a kitchen... wonder if it's powerful enough???

my research on this last year led me to believe they're not interchangeable as well... if you do it successfully.. please keep us informed.

The issue is ventilation and not all window units are created equal in that regard. If you block the ventilation it overheats the motor and you toast the unit. Almost all window units have some sort of side ventilation, but some have it along the entire side and some only have it on the last couple of inches on the side. To make a window unit work in a wall mount you need it to project through the wall far enough so that the ventilation holes will be clear. It'll work easily with some models and it won't work at all with other models depending on wall thickness and size/location of the vents. Do your homework and take good measurements before attempting to wallmount a window unit and don't be surprised if you can't make it work, but it WILL work with the right unit.
