Intalled windows update...nothing works

Installed update and when I load up (regardless of whether I use Safe Mode, Last Best Known Configuration, or regular boot up) I get the error: "The procedure entry point AssocGetPerceivedType could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll"

I click 'ok' then all i get is my desktop wallpaper, but nothing loads. I can hit alt-ctrl-dlt and get the windows task manager, but that's it.

What should I do? Thanks.

Edit: I'm running WinXP Pro service pack 2 beta v.2055

In Task Manager, try stopping Explorer.exe and then click New Task and start it again, see if that gets it on its feet.

Then if it were me, I'd take the hard drive out and copy anything important onto another computer, for starters. Then you can blow away the Windows installation and start over, if that's what it takes, or try a Repair-mode installation (choose Repair the second time it's offered to you during WinXP Setup).
