Intake + Outtake on back of a case? (Lian Li A71F + Corsair H80)

The Lian Li A71F has a removeable drive bay at the top back that I thought would work well for the H80. Upon looking at it, it does not have screw mounting holes and has a weird circular fan piece, and is meant for a PSU install. So I don't think I can install my H80 there... at least not easily :/

However, I could use the drive cage that came with it and leave it set to exhaust, and then use the H80 in the normal back fan port, and set it to intake? This would push air in and then the ONE exhaust would be in the back corner of the case pulling air out. My fear of setting the H80 radiator to exhaust is (1) it says it performs better set to intake and (2) most all of the hot air in the case would be being pushed out through it.

Thoughts on this? Here are pics of the case:

(you can see the rear exhaust and top back removable HDD cage)

And the H80:

What do you mean by "would be too easy" if it was 120mm? Wouldn't that be the wrong size for the 140mm fan vent? Or would it work?

I also found that this top panel, even though it isn't listed, it confirmed compatible with A71F:

Not sure which would be a better fit... seems the 1x opening would keep things quieter? But perhaps the 3x openings for 120mm fan would hit the H80 better as well as allow for more fans to keep things cool?

If the triple 120mm is compatable it might be a better option for you. Just get some quiet fans for it.

If you didn't buy the H80 yet then maybe look at the H100 if you do get the above replacement top. Looks like the fan spacing is correct in the photo.

The downside of using the rear 120mm as intake for the H80 would be your gpu vents out the heat directly below it and heat would most likely be sucked in

I run water cooling in my rig and just exhaust out my rads. Case has good airflow and looks to have no ill effect on my temps.

Do i need to fill all the fans holes on the triple 120mm? I just moved my stuff to this Lian Li out of a Corsair 800D and the Lian Li is SO much quieter, I would like to maintain that. One fan hole for the H80 would be ideal, is it hard to fit the 120mm fan/H80 onto the 140mm mesh hole?

If not do I need fans in all of the top slots, and if so, what is the quietest possible fan that still actually does something? I currently have Enermax Magmas which are supposeduly 18db but I'd like something even quieter because I don't think they actually hit that rating.

On this question in particular... do they make 140mm to 120mm adapters? I see ones that allow a 140mm fan to fit onto a 120mm spot, but do they have one that can allow a 120mm to mount to a 140mm spot, AND, would it work well with a heavy radiator attached like that corsair H80? Would I need to mount the fan to the radiator first and then screw the adapter to the 140mm, would that hold it ok?

You do understand that a 140/120mm fan adapter can work both ways, right? Like this one:

I'd think that one of the 140mm to 120mm adapters would be strong enough to support the H80. It would allow you to use the single 140mm top panel if your worried about noise.

Another option would possibly be the Noctua NF-P14 FLX 140mm fan I guess. It has the holes for 120mm mounting but comes with adapter plates to make it 140mm compatable also. Never used one so not sure how sturdy the fan is but looks like it would work in the photos.

Wow, nice fan! I am going to get one of those regardless, maybe I'll mount it as my rear exhaust. I'll pick-up one of those, the 120mm to 140mm, and the top cover made specifically for my case. I also found that the 3x 120mm hole cover requires removing the top back drive bay, which just so happens to hold another exhaust fan that I would then lose. Not to mention expose me to a bunch of extra noise via all the top holes.
