Intake Fan Filters -- necessary when covered by front of case?

Is it necessary to put fan filters on case fans that will be covered up by the front of your case anyway (a Chieftec Matrix)?

I was going to order two for my two intake fans, but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit them in my fan brackets along with my fans. (I have square, plastic brackets that hold the fans--no screws needed.)
