If anybody has HL2 or any version of source for that matter should look into this if you haven't already. It is a mod for HL2 available from the steam store. I guess the developer really wanted to make a good, realistic shooter and thats exactly what they deliver. It's one of those, no crosshair, no friendly/enemy tag games. You play either Iraqi Insurgents or US Marines on either push or capture all point maps. If you haven't downloaded it, I highly recommend it.

I heard about this from a friend a little while ago. I forgot about it until now. Looks interesting.

people are so used to monetary rape these days that the notion of a free mod is strange, anymore.
 
I actually really enjoyed it before my 8800GTX stopped working. It's a very good mod with great graphics and an intense, punching realism
 
i am underwhelmed by this game. i joined a server to find a bunch of people standing around launching infinite grenades out their chests and TKing me in the head with their rifles.

and it looks like a HL1 mod.

not sure about this.

Same as above I wasn't impressed bunch of grenade throwing and general clownery, I prefer BF2 PR (Project Reality). Played better, more servers and fewer idiots.

There are good servers, don't quit cause 1 or 2 have tons of dumb shits.

It's not the players that turned me off, it's that it looked like it's 10 years old and wasn't really any fun.
 
I've given up on realistic modifications after Infiltration for UT.

If anyone on this forum has remotely any idea what that is/was, props to you. You'll know why it was so special.

Not trying to threadcrap though, I will check out Insurgency regardless.

Agreed. Another "nay." I played once and never went back. Maybe I'm a bit particular though.
 
I remember playing in 2007 and thinking it was pretty fun. It just doesn't hold my attention like it used to.

Yep same here - the idea sounded excellent but the game play and execution simply failed to deliver for me - NEXT! 😀

My other buddy who often plays CS online with me thought it was simply "cr@p" - enough said 😉

 
Insurgency is a very good mod that offers plenty of depth with satisfying teamwork and really opens up if you invest the time to master it.

On the flip side it can be very frustrating, even for an experienced player. Newbies who are not used to this type of gameplay will likely rage quit after 10 minutes. Some of the maps are pretty bland and can be easily spawn camped.

If this kind of gameplay appeals to you then i highly recommend Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. Its about $5 on Steam, it has the same reinforcement, territorial control gameplay and focuses on realistic elements such as damage, movement and iron sights for aiming. Easy to pick up but takes months to master. If you can gather 8 experienced clan members and play it in a match against people of equivalent skill, it will probably offer you the best multiplayer gaming you've ever had.
