On friday i got into a accident: Hit and Run on the highway... d!ck cut from middle lane to right lane in order to make teh exit and in the process whacked into my driverside door and fender. He nor anyone else even stopped....

I have full coverage on my car, 2002 Maxima, and in that full coverage i have unisured motorist coverage.

I ended up going to teh hospital as a precaution because my back and neck started to feel tense about an hour or so after the accident.

Today i dropped off my car to be fixed and got a rental for the duration until its completed. the insurance rep called to let me know that the $100 deductable that i paid for teh emer. room visit can be reimbursed and said that i would be compensated for any missed time from work and doctor visits. I thought i was fine but this morning when i woke up my head was throbbing which hasn't stopped and my neck is tight. no pain but really tense.

first, will my insurance go up even though it wasn't my fault, but was a hit and run?
second, would it be in my best interest to use TDI and teh insurance compensation?
this is my first accident and i'm not exactly sure as to how to proceed. my mom suggested i get a lawyer to deal with the insurance company.
what does ATOT suggest i do?

that chaps my ass that you can pay for your insurance for 20 years, never make a claim, then someone else hits you and runs and your insurance goes up

how do they get away with that?

like getting hit by someone else makes you a bigger risk or something...

A lot of carriers will not increase your rates if you have one claim that was not your fault within a certain period of time (e.g. one every five years). I was run off the road into a telephone pole, totalling the car (and the pole) and my rates did not increase.

I was involved in Personal Injury accident with a guy on a motorcycle. He sustained the injuries.

I too, was wary of dealing with my insurance company. I called a lawyer I had known many years before because I ws uncertain that my insurance company was really looking out for my best interests.

He assured me that they were. That they had a legal responsibility to do so.

I would take that advice with both eyes wide open when dealing with your insurance company. I emphatically do not trust them.

Not really an answer to your question, but all that I can offer.

I would expect that your rates would go up, although they will disguise it with some other explanation. Not much you can do there but ride it out and switch insurance companies when the 5 years it stays with you has expired. May be 3 years under these circumstances.

i don't think they'll increase your rates, but i think that depends on the company..

yes, you shoudl go see a doctor about your injuries, and take advantage of the benefits that your insurance company offers.. i dont' mean take advantage by faking anything, but use them.. taht's what you pay for

I have personally seen peoples rates go up after accidents that they had 0 fault in.

This really agitates me. I got no problem with someone smacking into me, its one of the risks of driving - but dont hit me and take off. I'm sure this assclown didnt even look back to see if you had spun out or hit someone else. A low-speed fender bender in a parking lot is one thing coming across 2 lanes of traffic to catch an exit cause you werent attentive enough to realize you needed to exit is another. I hope the cops catch this guy and make an example of him.

If you make the insurance pay, they will make soemone else pay. Since you are the only person there is, you will probably get an insurance rate hike....

Don't hire a lawyer to talk to the insurance company....Insurance is a business as is law. You hire a lawyer when teh insurance company should give you moeny but is not.

If your company gives you grace they will ignore this accident if it is your first one.
