Insurance question

I know when someone is in an accident with you, and you file against thier insurance company, thier rates will likely go up. Well will the same thing happen to me if I were to file a claim against my collision coverage through my insurance carrier? The carrier is allstate indemnity by the way. And will that go on my record at all, like as a not at fault accident or anything? Basically if it does cause my premiums to rise, will I be able to switch carriers at the end of my coverage and go to another carrier without paying inflated rates there as well?

yes.

car inurance is a scam. It only serves its purpose if you total your car. Otherwise you often end up spending more in the long run by reporting an incident than if you payed for it on your own and didnt report it.

EDIT: for example.....someone broke into my car and stolen my 2000 dollar stereo system. I filed a claim. I got a check. Not my fault that it happened but rates went up.

Someone hits me....Not my fault that it happens but in my state its a 'no-fault' state meaning that my rates go up and my insurance pays.

SO would it be inflated even if I switch carriers, and when doe sit go up, immediately or do they have to wait till the next contract

If the insurance company will have to send you any kind of check for anything, that's when your rate goes up.

it may take a couple months for it to register on there systems but your rates will eventually increase. It will stay on your record for 3 years.

car insurance essentially punishes you for using it.

Well I am not sure if it matters, but I am in Ohio which is not a no fault state.

That's cause Ohio has the WORST drivers on the planet. If I see an Ohio driver, damn it I get as far away ASAP.

no fault means that you are both at fault. No matter what, even if the accident is not your fault, your insurance company will pay the damage. So, in no fault states, your premium will go up with any accident. If you switch carriers, you will still have an inflated rate since the accident is on your record.
