Insurance on Ebay items?

If I sell something and offer insurance for $1, does it mean I must purchase that mail carier's insruance? The item I am selling is only a couple of dollars, and I said that insurance is optional and costs $1. Since I will be sending the item through USPS, do I have to purchase it's insurance? Can't I just do a personal insurance? Like if the guy says that he didn't get the mail, I will mail him another one of those things.
 
Well, since you weren't very specific in your Ebay description, I would just let the buyer know and let him decide. I assume what you're selling is small, and insurance for that through USPS shouldn't be more than a buck.
