Personal preference. I wouldn't want to keep a six or seven year old vehicle that's been salvaged. I don't even like driving accident free vehicles that are three years old. I get bored and want something warrantied so I get a new one every two and half to three years. Also, like to get rid of them before the rust starts from all of the road salt here.

No. I buy new, get a 100k mile extended warranty, drive it for about three years / 90k miles, and trade it in right before the warranty expires.

Oh, there will still be things wrong with a vehicle that has been in a severe enough accident to be salvaged. I wouldn't trust it to behave the same.

Again, how do you know that the OP's car has been damaged in a way that can't be fixed? Unless you're telepathic he hasn't posted enough information to make that clear. Cars are totaled based on the cost of the repair to bring it back to the condition that it was before the accident. Not the severity of the effects to the car's operation. Cars can even be totaled out for something like hail damage. While that will bust windows and dent the car there's nothing mechanically wrong with it.

Might the car have problems? Yes. Do you have any clue if the OP's car has serious problems? No. A salvage title doesn't automatically mean it has problems, just like a normal title doesn't automatically mean that the car doesn't.

Yup. Between dropping the kids off at daycare, then going to my wife's office, and then to mine it is 45 miles each way. Walmart is 20 miles from home, shopping and restaurants are 30 miles, family is 100-120 miles.

On the plus side, we make do with only a single vehicle.

My mom got into a serious accident less than a year after getting her brand new 06 TSX. Less than 8k miles:

Side airbags went off and everything. I believe it was about $13500 to fix it.
Insurance payed for it because the car was still new and worth a lot more than that.

She hasn't had any problems with the car since having the repairs done. In fact there is no way of telling the car was ever in an accident without going under the car. They did a really good job. It doesn't pull or drift or many any weird noises.

Great for your mom ... nut she instantly lost thousands off the price of the car should she decide to unload it in the future.

she has no plans to unload it so it doesnt matter. also it does not have a salvage title because it was not totaled.
