Insurance is quoting 25% higher on the same parts I can buy...

I had a front end accident...the parts I am being quoted are 25% higher than I can get the same parts for from another dealer.

The difference adds up to $800 (more than enough to have even a fender and hood shipped for less)...plus two expensive parts aren't on the estimate that will have to be replaced (shattered plastic...the upper and lower fan shrouds)...

I am in florida if that matters. I couldn't find anything quickly online about this that could say definitely yes or no.

Are they paying or are you paying? If you're paying for these parts I think you should be allowed to buy the parts where you want. They may refuse to warranty any work done with your parts though.

The insured is always the one paying...they cut me a check and I hand it to the dealership.

Don't they cut you a check - it's up to you if you want to let the car rot / have it fixed where you want / have the dealer fix it?

My dad made the mistake of giving the dealership the check from an insurance company for front bumper work from an accident. I think they overcharged him by quite a bit.

If they are giving you cash Potted Meat is right. You can take it to your own shop if you want, you can do the repairs yourself, and you can use whatever parts you want.

They are giving you the money so if their estimates are higher that is to your BENEFIT.

Correct. The insurance company pays YOU, then you go to the shop of your choice,negotiate prices and what parts to use to have it fixed.

that's why it's called an "estimate"

your insurance estimates the cost of the repairs, sends you a check that = (cost of repairs - deductible) and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, hell buy a hooker and some blow if you prefer!
