About to install a portable AC unit for the season again. This time I'd like to insulate it (more than the one cheap piece of foam it comes with. I see some talking about large foam block and others use some type of insulated duct tape like device. Which direction would be better?

Are you attempting to insulate the window or the opening around the A/C unit after the unit is installed in the window.

You can get high density foam and cut to the opening size; then seal with insulating gasket material.

Its a portable, so only open enough to stick exhaust ducking through. Around the flimsy plastic frame for the duct exit not very insulated and because the window is only partially open there is also some flow allowed between the windows and up that opening.
