insulate mobo from case floor

bardos

Junior Member
If you wanted to insulate a mobo completely from the case floor, punching out the screw holes as the only contacts, what would you use as the material?

I have used cardboard to insulate before, but I am looking for a thinner material. Would duct tape do? Plastic?

Bottom line: What's the best, cheap, strong, non-conductive, readily available material you know of?

thanks.

styrofoam is too thick, methinks. i wouldn't be able to find it thin enough to lay out as a "blanket".

What about the pink foam that comes in most motherboard boxes. I'd assume it's non-conductive,but would test it first. It's thin enough to fit in there, and already the right size for your motherboard.

What you want is conformal coating- it's used to protect industrial circuit boards, and is widely available at a real electronics outlet or over the net...

The back of single sided boards is usually lightly block sanded to knock off any solder whiskers and then the coating is either sprayed or brushed on.

Probably the easiest to obtain is electrical enamel from an auto parts store... Usually red in color...
