we should make them spend their wealth to stimulate the economy.

i know if i were rich, i'd rather go on a spending spree than to let my extra income get taxed.

They already do. Either they purchase high priced ticket items or invest the money. I dont know of anybody who is rich that puts their money under the bed.

Why not just evenly distribute that money to everyone in the country? Socialism for the win!

We should make them buy things that they don't enjoy, like bulk urinal mints, to punish them for being better than us.

What would you expect them to buy besides expensive foreign cars, and expensive imported foods? It's not like they're going to go out and spend $10,000 or more at stores like Wal-Mart or Home Depot.
Why don't you give us some good examples of what they could buy that would stimulate the economy of our country?

Urinal mints.

But rich people don't use urinals. They always sit down to pee on their $40,000 toilet seats.

They can eat them, topped with caviar.

if you were handed an extra $50k per year (or whatever the difference is between what you make now and the upper tax bracket), you're telling me you'll have trouble spending that?

I thought they paid people to pee for them.

there's rich, and then there's uber rich. rich is a subset of uber rich.
of course everything is relative, but rich does not necessarily mean you're chauffeured in a bentley.
you might be able to afford a new sports car every couple of years, and vacation to exotic places.

i don't know about you guys, but i'd much rather buy all kinds of toys, eat out at nice restaurants regularly, go to hawaii than lose it all to taxes.
i'd be paying sales tax and helping the local economy at the same time.
a big house = big property tax

other than the logistics of implementing this, what's so bad about the idea?

You mean you'd act like all those people that win the lottery and are broke in a couple of years?

Rich people invest their money, which does indeed stimulate the economy.

What he said. Why do you think they go broke when their meal ticket is gone?

GDP = consumption + gross investment + government spending + (exports - imports)

Rich people invest the money they don't consume, so no, it will have no effect on GDP.
