I'd really like to have a P4G8X because i'm sure it would have more power for doing things with programs like photoshop. However I Dont know if i can wait a month for it, could i get by with a P4PE?

Also, anyone know why the P4G8X is being delayed?

p4pe is a really good board

however, it clearly states that you are limited to 1 dimm if you wish to use pc3200....i dont nkow if the option dissapears with more than one dimm populated or what, but thats worth a consideration perhaps

Get the P4PE, then upgrade to a fullblown dual channel DDR implementation with the Canterwood chipset in Q2. The Canterwood features a few tricks that will make it perform a lot better than the Granite Bay.

I wont be able to afford upgrading to a canterwood board...unless I could reuse the P4PE ram in it. I'd rather build a computer and have it last me a long time, i dont want to upgrade. I wish canterwood was out now. Its probably the best choice but its too far off. My parents wouldnt want me upgrading all the time so I just have to get the best i can right now. So should I wait for a P4G8X or is it not worth the wait?

I'm not totally impressed with GB benches. You can basically get away with comparable performance with 1 stick or RAM and a board that supports higher mem ratios. I was pondering a GB setup, but really can't see it happening for me.

I'll stick with PE until Dual Channel DDR boards are more abundant and the performance starts to break away from single channel performance.

If money is no object, I'd probably hook myself up with a sweet GB setup and a nice low multiplier p4 with a 133 FSB and OC like a mofo.

Although the Canterwood is designed for DDR400, you should have no problems using lower speed DDR SDRAM from your P4PE board. The idea is to spend less now (rather than shell out big bucks for the Granite Bay, which is going to be replaced by the Springdale/Canterwoods) so that you can actually afford the Canterwood upgrade 6-9 months down the track.

You'll also get a lot more for it, since the Canterwood will natively support AGP8X, SATA, possibly Firewire and other goodies. 800MHz FSB support....:D

I would definetly be able to save up enough money for a canterwood board if
theyre 6-9 months down the road. however I wouldnt be able to switch mobos
without my parents getting mad at me. *sigh* Anyway, even though the GB
boards cost more than a P4PE, the gb boards use cheaper ram so i dont see
much difference in price. I'd rather just get the best board I can right now
so it will last me for a few years.

I havent seen differences in features between a P4PE and a P4G8X so i'd be
happy with either one. Although I have seen a lot of complaints and problems
posted on this forum about the P4PE

So, the question is will there be a difference in performance if I get a
P4PE instead of a P4G8X?
besides benchmarks, would there be more punch and power in a P4G8X (because
of dual channel ddr) for stuff like watching movies on the computer or using
photoshop?

would i be better off waiting for AGP 8X so i can plan for the future? or does it not matter? i'm only afraid that there would some kind of bottleneck with AGP 4x
