Yes. Consume a LOT of polyunsaturated fats and foods high in HDL cholesterols. Also eat a lot of foods that encourage a lower PH - this will help scrub calcification.

ingles por favor.

Foods high in polyunsaturated fats:
Olive oil
Fish
Whole grain wheat
nuts
bananas
avocados

Foods that will raise HDL (good) cholesterols:
red wine
orange juice
oat bran
onions
soy
apples, grapes, citrus

Foods that lower PH:
alfalfa
beets
brcoccoli
cabbage
carrots
cauliflower
celery
collard greens
eggplant
garlic
mushrooms
onions
peas
peppers
sprouts
sweet potatoes
tomatoes
many many fruits
almonds
soured dairy products

I've seen clogged arteries before being dissected in the cutting room of a hospital, and I gotta say, the plaque is HARD. When you cut through it with a scalpel you hear a distinct crunch as it cuts through. Not too sure how that stuff can simply dissolve away by leading a more healthy life.
A wicked long fast. I'm talking in the range of 30 days, no food, water only. I kid you not.

According to statistics, a large percentage of those viewing this thread will eventually die from heart disease. Prostate Cancer is right up there as well.

i also eat much of that pretty regularly, and get some (not enough, im sure, but some) exercise

the video makes me thing about my dad, however. he slathers bread with butter and *loves* the fatty part of pork and beef. hes a walking heart attack, and im surprised hes made it over 50.

Saturated fat most certainly does *not* cause heart disease. This is a myth that has been persisted in our society for 50 years. It's the unnatural fats (trans fats) along with our massive intake of sugar and processed carbs that cause heart disease. The lipid hypothesis has failed.

I agree, misinformation is rampant. Carbs and processed foods are the real culprit.

There is a lot of evidence that says it does get removed with exercise and good diet. Your body has some amazingly badass ways of healing it self.

I can't agree with this - in fact, if you already have a considerable amount of deposits around the heart, I would think this could deadly. Polyunsaturated fats emulsify saturated fats, so it acts like a cleaner. Good cholesterol lowers bad cholesterol, preventing further buildup. People on those low-fat diet crazes were more prone to injury and mental issues because because they cut out all the good fat with the bad fat.

Nature perfected the ideal solution already, a healthy diet and plenty of exercise.

No, my genetics are good and my lifestyle is great, so my risk factors are about as low as they could be.

Somehow I'm thinking it's possible to make a tasty pizza out of those... Wooohoo!

It's important to point out that not only is it what you eat, but some people are blessed genetically, and others are cursed.

edit: and wash it down with a heart healthy glass (or two) of red wine.

Sagalore, if possible, could you PM a citation for the lower-pH/scrub-calcification stuff you mentioned in previous post? I've always wondered about this myself and I never got a straight answer from others who have said the same thing.

There are some people who were starting to think about giving the cholesterol lowering meds to kids because some think that the problems start while we're young but I dont think anyone in US wants to make a move just yet.

I would worry some about heart disease, but in reality, I get the impression that the medical overlords only understand enough pathology to slip us into a damage control mode anyways. Live, eat, and exercise healthy if you dont want the cholesterol dagger to slip deeper into your chest.

I second the arterial calcific crunch. Imagine an egg shell, but slightly tougher to crack. That's what the consistency felt like on our cadaver's abdominal aorta and I almost puked when it took a hard scalpel incision/clamp crunch to remove a chunk of the aortic wall(which is odd because all of the other abdominal organs like the intestines didnt really phase me)
