Instant reboot when accessing CD drive

Okay I just set up my new computer and I am having this annoying problem... I have an LG GCC-4480B (firmware 1.02) combo drive and sometimes when it is being accessed the computer reboots without warning.

A couple times I actually got a BSOD that said "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" but no other useful info on that screen.

I'm not able to reproduce the situation consistently.. it just happens sometimes when the CD drive is being accessed, and I think more specifically when the drive is being accessed simultaneously by two programs. For example, if I have explorer open and browsing a CD, and I load Nero's Drive Info tool, then when I quit the info tool the computer would reboot. Actually it even happend once with no CD in the drive at all when I ran the Nero info tool.

Here's all the relevant specs:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe (Bios 1006)
Intel P4 2.4C
LG GCC-4480B is Secondary Master (using 40-conductor cable that came with mobo)
Windows XP SP1 is installed on SATA RAID array
Also have two IDE hard drives as Primary Master and Primary Slave
the VIA RAID controller is Disabled

Only CD-related software I have installed is Nero 5.5.10.28
I have all the latest drivers from Asus website installed as well.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it Nero ASPI? IDE drivers? the drive itself? the motherboard? I can't figure it out.

Don't know if this will help, but you may try going into your Admin Tools in Control Panel. From there look at the "Event Viewer." There are three sections there. It may show you what is causing an error which may be related to your problem. It shows the date and time it happened. Might help narrow it down.

Good Luck!

Hmm... try turning off the "Automatically Restart" in System Properties >> Advanced Settings >> System Recovery. Perhaps you can see what is going on/wrong better.

Nothing in the event logs.

It just froze again a couple times, this time all i did was double click on Windows Explorer, and one moment after the window appeared I was looking at my POST screen :(

Okay before I thought it was related to the CD drive, but I've got the BSOD screen when doing other things that should have nothing to do with the CD drive... like when I tried to open Outlook.

I'm now thinking it's either the motherboard, or its drivers... but I got the latest of all of them from Asus.
