Instant notification from Mail on iPhone

Does anyone get an instant notification when they receive email on their iPhone?

One thing that I miss from my BlackBerry is that I would get a notification for new email a few seconds before mail on my desktop did. On my iPhone it seems like it takes a while at least a few minutes.

Solution?

Thanks!

Solution? Get a BB! J/K, but really, the BB did email the best out of all email capable devices. Still does. I see no settings on my ip4 to change the frequency.

Haha. That ship sailed a while ago 😉

I forgot to add:
I have an iPhone 4s

BlackBerry handled all your mail through their servers and pushed it to your phone. The iPhone checks the servers as if it were a computer. You can get mail pushed with an Exchange account though. Exchange servers are generally limited to corporate email, but if you have a Gmail account, you can set that up over Exchange as well.

The only "trick" I learned is you have to set up your e-mail account as an exchange account, rather than say pick "Gmail" if you have a Gmail account when you configure it.

But even with this, it is hit or miss if I'll get it first. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It was definitely better than when I configured it through the default Gmail choice, though.

If you use a @me account its push, since @me is done through Apple's servers. I have all my important emails routed through there and things I occasionally like to read and thumb through in my gmail account that I can just update whenever I check.

Also, get the Gmail app if you use Gmail, it is supposedly push, so you get your emails instantly.

Personally, I mostly use the gmail app. It does get push notifications and works well enough, though it's a bit slow. However, since it can't be set as the default email handler (I don't think), I also have gmail exchange setup so I can send emails via mailto links and whatnot (and for contacts and calendars).

I do this because I'm too anal retentive to allow gmail/exchange's poor delete handling, and too impatient to do without push notifications, like with IMAP.

Hotmail account accessed through Exchange ActiveSync, I get my mail instantly. Gmail can do the same thing, but I never tried it.

IMAP or POP accounts are fetched on specified time intervals, not pushed.

I get iPhone (exchange) notifications pretty much simultaneously as my desktop running Thunderbird with IMAP IDLE.

When you talk about the notifications that you get, are you just talking about the badges that you get on the Mail app on your iPhone?

Because with iOS 5 you can enable Mail notifications where it will pop up your message on the lock screen or in the notification bar/center.
