You'd say things on IM that you'd never say in real life, face to face.
I just had a long, deep conversation with a girl, I'd never really discuss these things with her face to face. Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but IM's are weird in this way.

I'm pretty sure some overpaid PhDs spent millions of taxpayer money to study this.

No they havent. But the bill for funding such research has just passed congress! (along with another pay raise for our senitors for the great work they do)

Ummmm, that's not what I meant by deep conversation, and I didn't just discover IM's.
I'm just commenting on the fact that you'd say things on IM which you'd never say face to face.
I think it's a very interesting dynamic.

Do you have any idea how the higher ed research system works? The two main governmental grant organizations for academic study have had their budgets slashed so much that its virtually impossible to get money from them - and if you are fortunate enough to get through the hurdle of multiple grants being passed then you get a paltry sum.

Many "overpaid PHDs" (once again - last time I checked salaries they weren't that high at most schools comparatively - unless of course you teach business) rely on outside grants and corporate funding it would seem like these days.

i know what you mean. i haven't done the IM thing for a few years, but I used to IM a lot and its weird how you can feel more relaxed about talking about certain things.

i guess its because you can think about what you want to say beforehand, whereas face to face, you don't really get that chance and you're worried about how its going to sound, etc.

IMing is great but certain things said on IM don't have the same affect as if you were to say them in person...Like "Does this cloth smell like chloroform?"
