Installing xp with one disk but using the key of another?

I am waiting on my xp disk to arrive in the mail. The computer is finished and would really like to get it up and running. Could I use my xp pro disk to install and when the new disk comes use the key off of it or would that be too much of a hassle? Any ideas on this?

Use your XP pro disk now and install. There's a 30-day grace period between when you install and when you have to input your key and register. By that time you should already have your new XP disk. Just make sure both XPs are the same version.

Both are xp pro sp2.

Are they the same channel ID as in both are OEM XP Pro? Even though you are somewhat violating the EULA you appear to have good intentions. 🙂 If the new XP Pro is not the same channel ID then your current install will typically not work with the new key. You can use magical jellybean or the Windows Product Key Update Tool

Retail allows you to legally transfer from one pc to another as long as it is only installed on one pc at a time. Are you going to have it on two pc's simultaneously? If not why did you purchase a second copy? Vista upgrade? 🙂

This is for another computer other than my own. I am building it for my brother in law. Not really looking for vista until everyone says it is great. I am not a first adopter. I don't like problems. I know it was beta tested but I'll let everyone else mess with it for awhile. Maybe in about 6months to a year.
