I would like to add a sata drive to my system. I will still have a regular ide hooked up for storage. Will I be able to intall my XP OS on the sata drive?

Yes, if it is native to the chipset (ie intel 865/875, via's kt600) it will go without any problems. If it is on a external chip (ie onboard raid controller) you will need to copy the drives to a floppy and hit F6 at the start of the install to specify the drivers location
