Installing XP from USB Flash Drive

It might work but I wont try it.
I always thought myself a nerd but lately I am getting less interested in things like this.
This procedure seems to be a lot more complicated than just swapping out your optical drive and installing Windows properly. Though the writer of the article made a point in saying it was for his laptop and he couldn't just swap it out.

As for your HTPC, I dont know how you can call it a "Home Theater" PC if it doesnt have an optical drive.
Or did it just die recently?

It's drive became a donor for another machine. I haven't replaced it because I'm waiting for something to happen with decent Bluray support in Windows, preferably also in BeyondTV, before I spring for a new one. It's still a dual analog plus single digital tuner machine and gets a lot of use as a DVR. It's also home to my SlingPlayer and Netflix viewer, for out of market sports and instant movies. Also, it's connected to the TV 🙂

As far as not being faster, it might not be if you don't have everything ready to go, but because my software comes from Technet, I already had everything ready to go and just needed to prep the flash drive with BartPE. It boots into ramdisk into the BartPE environment, so you could install a different OS if you wanted to, but I just happened to use it for XP b/c my HD tuner is not supported that well in Vista.
