I know there's a way to do it. I think someone posted it here, but I can't do a full text search and come up with it. I can't do setup.exe, cuz it wont do it from DOS. Anyone know what file I'm supposed to start it from?

I could never get that to work. I don't believe it does, but maybe there is a way around it.

The only other way that I know of instead of using the bootable XP CD is to download the 6 XP startup bootdisks. There may also be a way to install it from DOS using Smart Drive but I don't have the specifics on this.

If you can't boot from the cd, then use the boot disk to enable cd-rom support, then find the I36 folder on the CD and run winnt.exe.

If its anything like 2K, there should be a program to make a bootdisk on the CD in a directory called BOOTDISK.

It won't work from a 98 bootdisk.
