installing xp 90 on p4

hello guys,

This is my first shot at installing a heatsink. I have a p4 2.8 c and I just got an xp 90 for it. Right now i'm using the stock hsf and thermal pad. I have some rubbing alcohol and i'm wondering would a cotton swab be alright for cleaning the heatspreader. I'm gonna be using as - 5 as my thermal paste. Any useful information or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

Well I got the old stock hsf off without to much of a problem. Now i'm in the process of cleaning the heatspreader, applying the as 5 and then installing my new heatsink. Hopefully i'll be able to post an update with system temperatures 🙂. As a side note three of the fins on the xp 90 were bent. Only at the very very tip. I straightened them out but when I did the one on the outside cracked a little. I suppose it doesn't really matter, but sure was frustrating. Wish me luck

Please, don't do that. This is a forum. People are supposed to learn from other people's experiences. If everyone killed their threads when they solved their own problem, we wouldn't have too much of a forum.

well it was really dumb, and really really obvious, and I felt a little stupid about the question i asked so i removed it to save myself some embarassment. sorry
