I've got a system that for some reason won't boot from a CD. I've tried Win2000, WinXP, and a Linux bootable CD and none will boot. Is there anyway to get WinXP Pro to install without a bootable CD without installing another OS and upgrading? I know in Win2k you could create boot disks, but I don't see that on the XP CD.

Thanks.

Over at sourceforge you can download smart boot manager, it can be installed in the boot record of a drive (I do it on a floppy) andit will boot the cdrom. I love it cause I have a floppy I can stick in a machine that wont boot to CD and get it to boot to the CD... its a free download and there is a DOS version for the windows users out there.

Smart Boot Manager is a nice toolkit item. After making the floppy. dd it with Linux (since Winimage won't recognise it) , then create a self-extracting Winimage file from the .img file with Winimage and burn to CD. Instant SBM floppies whenever ya want them. :)

You can use a 98 boot disk to load XP. Make a normal 98 boot disk and then put smartdrv.exe on the disc.

Boot from floppy with cd support

run smartdrv
change to cdrom
change directory to i386
run winnt

You will then be at the same screen as you would be at if you had booted from the XP cd.
