installing WinXP via CD

I burnt XP to a CD because I used nLITE to remove things and modify the installation. I boot from the burnt CD fine and I can format the drive but once the XP installation begins I get an error that says something about renductary check and says to clean the CD or something. I ahve come to the conclusion that it may be my burner since it has been acting up lately and may have caused problems in the burning process.

Now since I cannot install from the CD my question is is there anyway I could get the files off the CD and put them on my harddrive and install off the harddrive. This way I will not get this error as it will be installing from the harddrive and not the CD. How exactly would I do this? Right now I am using the Mandrake Live CD I had laying around. So intructions on how to do it in Mandrake Linux will help.

Hmm. You could try this:

1) Make a FAT32 partition, copy CD contents to \XPCD
2) Make a bootable floppy - 98SE works, or get an image from bootdisk.com
3) Boot from the floppy, then do \XPCD\winnt.exe /b
4) Convert to NTFS post-install

That's the 2K install method - I don't know if it works. Better idea would be to just install vanilla XP and live with it. What exactly were you trying to strip out with nLite?

Ya but how exactly would I install XP without booting from the CD? Can't I boot from a floppy and have it install the OS off my harddrive? I am asking how to do that.

EDIT: Sorry. As I was typing this MercenaryForHire
replied. I will read his post now.

I don't know exactly how to make a partision within linux. What is vanilla XP? I was just removing alot of stuff I do not use with nLite. I also slipstreamed SP2 and did a few other things and after doing all that I really want to install the modified version but I cannot install off of the burnt CD.

as stated,it worked for me,as i slipstreamed XP and the cd would not run from boot /reburned at 4X and good to go 🙂
