Installing WinXP on SATA Raid0 array

Hey guys,

I'm building a new comp, everything is blank. I wanted to install my OS on a SATA Raid0 array. Here's my setup:

CPU: P4 2.6C
MOBO: Asus P4P800 Deluxe
MEM: 2x256 DDR400
HDD: 2 WD Raptor 10000RPM (WD360GD) Raid 0 config
Video: Geforce4 ti4600
CD: TDK VeloCD

So the Raid controller for Serial ATA is built into the South bridge on the MOBO. So I am able to configure it into an array. But when I boot from the WinXP CD to install, it says there are no drives detected on my system.

Also in the BIOS, it does not list my raid array as an IDE or HDD, but it is selectable as one of the options in the boot sequence. Any ideas?

How about if I install WinXP when they are NOT raided, and then convert the drives to RAID, what happens then? Cuz when they're not in Raid 0, windows detects them fine.

Thanks! Please email me if you have any suggestions.

You need to have the RAID driver floppy disk available when installing Windows. During the install process a message will appear on the bottom of your screen, near the beginning of the install, that tells you to "Press F6 to install SCSI or IDE controllers" (something to that effect anyhow) Press F6 when instructed and use the driver floppy to install the RAID drivers, proceed as normally.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, but I'm not sure what the drivers are because supposedly all the drivers and controls are built into the South Bridge using ICH5R. I'll try to ask intel since it's their SATA raid controller.

Hey User1001,

I see you have a similar setup in terms of hdds. Did you raid them together? If so how did you manage to install your OS on them? Did you map the raid array to the primary IDE? I dunno if my BIOS allows that, can you suggest a mother board that you think is more compatible? Thanks!
