I'm about to attempt an install of Windows XP from a cd to a Maxtor SATA drive. Is there any reason to believe I should have to jump through additional hoops to make this work? The hard drive manual says something about XP possibly not recognizing the SATA drive, but since XP isn't even installed at that point, I don't really understand what they mean. My mobo supports SATA so it shouldn't be a problem, right? Or am I missing something? It's just that the manual says something about having to make floppy disks to make it work and I don't have a floppy drive. Again, maybe it's not even a problem, but I wanted to ask before I uninstall my current IDE drive. Thanks.

If you boot from winxp cd, you'll see that you will need to hit F6 to install SCSI drivers or addtional drivers, hit f6 early and often to make sure ;). Then you put in your floppy disk with the Serial ATA drivers. It comes with the motherboard, or you can download the latest from the motherboard manufacturer.

I installed XP on my Seagate SATA drive from a boot cd with no problems, without hitting F6 or anything, but maybe that's just me.. I was using a DFI LanParty NF3.
