i just spent 10 hours browsing the net and rooting around inside a friends case trying to install windows XP pro on an ABIT BE6II with a p2 400. The problem is in the HPT366 ATA66 HD controller and the fact that there is no final driver for it for XP(it took me 3 hours to find the beta's!!). so this post is a notice to anyone having troubles with this board and xp.
step 1: put all the drives on the ATA33 controllers
step 2: install windows xp normally
step 3: get and install the windows XP beta/final HPT366 drivers (you can mail me and i will send it out if you can't find them)
step 4:shutdown and change the drives to the ATA66 controllers IMPORTANT: i could not get it to work at all with any slave drives i had to use 2 cables one master drive on each and i had to leave the cdrom on ata33. No matter what i tried i could not put 2 drives on the same cable and i tried like 6 different cables.
step 5: boot and make sure all the drives are recognized and the controllers are under scsi/raid devices in device manager with no conflicts.
It took an age to do but it works now and is very stable so good luck to everyone with this board or the HPT366 controller on another board.
PS: I wrote this because i searched and searched for some simple instructions to try last night and i think it'll be helpful 😛
