OK, I've got Windows 98 installed on my laptop hard drive and I would like to install windows XP on teh same drive.

If I copy the files from the CD into a specified folder would I be able to install windows XP from this folder on the hard drive??

Also when I go to install windows XP will it give me the choice to have a dula boot windows xp/windows 98 system?? as I want to also keep windows 98 on there.

Thanks

AFAIK you can install two windows OS's on the same partition, but it's not really recommended. If you have extra space, create another partition for XP. You can install XP off the hard drive by copying the i386 folder to your hard drive and running \i386\winnt.exe.

You will definitely want a seperate partition. While it is theoretically possible to do this with one partition, I don't recommend it. Win XP will detect your other windows and give you a startup menu to choose from.

get a program like partition commander or partition magic

make 2 partitions both primary both fat 32

format both

set c: active

load win 98 to d: then load drivers
load xp to c: then update as needed

volla two os's with a boot menu on one harddrive with 2 primary partitions

hope this helps
