At the beginning screen when you boot off of a Window's Setup CD you will see something in the bottom of the screen that says 'Press F6 to load third party SATA drivers'. Most likely your motherboard came with a floppy disk that has the SATA/RAID drivers on them. Just stick that in and load them up. Windows will take you through a couple screens to install the drivers, then you should be set.

be sure to unplug any PATA HDDs before installing windows on a SATA, otherwise the SATA will not be drive C:, and the boot file with be on C: being the PATA and if you removed the PATA or it fails your computer will not boot.

If you can slipstream SP2 into Winxp you may not need any drivers...unless you are going to RAID

I would suggest hooking up your cd/dvd rom and just the sata drive and trying installing windows without hitting F6...in some cases(ie Neo 2 Plat )the F6 with raid drivers in a non raid system have caused issues)

I did this with no issues and I had 2 sata drives .....

It may not work unless sp2 is present so you may need the F6 and floppy drivers

Same question as Wadded Beef.
I'm getting an Abit Av8/ A64 3500+ combo with XP Home w/SP2 from Monarch. A friend here at work mentiioned that installing on SATA (single drive, non RAID) with XP w/SP2 disc MAY work without the F6 hassle. Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks.

Yes..I have winxp with sp2 ..I installed on my Neo 2 Plat a sata hdd with NO F6 and drivers..in fact I recommend not hitting F6 and just installing the OS then in WinXP install any winxp updates reboot and then install and chipset drivers needed and used..reboot then video reboot the naudio and reboot

then make a clean winxp image in case you need to reinstall winxp

Let me as clear as possible
I have a A64 3200 on Neo 2 Plat..I hooked up my dvdrw on ide 1, dvd rom on ide2
sata 3 has a 200gb SATA HDD
sata 4 was left empty
(I overclock so sata 1 and 2 are no to be used as they are bus speed locked)
I placed winxp cd in dvdrom and off I went I did NOT hit F6 and use my flopy drivers...I was not using raid

If you RAID you will need to hit F6 t o install RAID drivers....no RAID...try not hitting F6 and see what happens ...I had NO problems with my SATA winxp pro install with no RAID

you need to make sure your bios has sata controller enabled

winxp was installed with NO issues

Check the directions for an Abit board here. They can probably be modified to use any controller. Using a floppy is still the easiest if SP2 does not have native drivers for your SATA controller.

I did a search on Google for "sp2 install sata without floppy"
