Hello everybody,

I was trying to install Windows 98 SE, the Chinese edition for a friend
and I couldn't complete the installation process! My friend can read
Chinese but not word for word. I got to the point where it asks for
the CD-Key, typed it in, and then another window came up asking
for an "authentic Microsoft" software file or something.

A "browse" option was available to look for the file but we didn't know
where it was! I have a copy of Windows 98 (English) and was wondering
if the "authentic" file(s) would be located there? Has anybody had a
similar experience?

Does anyone know if you can install Microsoft Word 2000 or Office 2000
(Chinese editions) on a Windows 98 (English OS) system?

Thanks!

I have never tried to install Window 98SE Chinesse edition. But what would I personally suggest to your friend is to install Linux from www.linuxiso.org and then you can try knoppix which requires no installation just to try it in the beginning. Knoppix and linux will allow you to try to practice all the different languages that you want. You can try installing or using linux distributions that are specific to a country or language.

If you are not confortable enough with linux to use it your friend could try installing openoffice from www.openoffice.org which is an office suite producitive better than microsoft office. You can download it for free and try installing the chinese version, and that way you could try and practice chinesse.

I hope this helps,
