i know the RC has a built in virtual machine but will it run 32 bit programs?

Ive had a few apps that i needed XPx86 for like JMCINDER for my blackberry and a few other apps. Should i leave my XP partition there or will the VM built into windows 7 be good enough for all of that?

if i have any doubts im gonna leave it because once 7 is on there xp is nearly impossible to install without messing up 7.

I don't believe that the built-in XP virtualization supports USB devices yet. If this is for your blackberry, does the software need to communicate with your blackberry over USB?

I'd keep XP around.

leave xp installed but install windows 7 and install xp vm in windows 7 see how it works that what I would do. you can always go in later and remove xp if you find you do not need it. Ps It been while but ms vitrual machine is does supprt usb and that is all xp mode in windows 7 is. If you have cou that support virtualalzatiuon xp mode will run better

Actually it does support USB devices, including USB 2.0 devices. This is new, compared to the last version of Virtual PC.

seeing windows 7 is not quite fully done, i would leave you xp32 bit just in case. but in the mean time you can download the virtual xp mode and test that out to see how well it works. if by the time win7 is released and it all works fine in virtual xp mode then you can dump xp

Does it simulate a 32 bit environment though? i think that's the biggest problem i would have with only using vista 64.

XP/Vista/W7 64 can run most 32bit apps. What do you need exactly?

well its just the occasional app that wont run in vista x64. I know the app for wiping blackberrys needs its. Its called JDMcinder or something like that. Also i needed it when flashing the firmware on older 360's. I think a few others needed it i cant remember which ones though.

I tried running in compatibility mode and all that but nothing worked.

Nvidiaguy07,

You ask some fantastic questions. If you feel more comfortable working with a dual boot partition in the beginning, I recommend that. Please note that there are some hardware limitiations to the Virtual PC or "XP mode."
