Installing Windows 7 without a CD drive

Hi guys

I have a problem. I need to reinstall Windows 7 on a laptop on Monday. I have a Win7 disc, but the optical drive is dead. I have purchased a new drive, but I have to wait a couple of weeks for it.

Is there a way to install it via USB? I have a couple of Windows XP machines and a Macbook Pro to help, and I can get an external optical drive as well.

Is it possible to simply install from the external drive?

The basic issue is whether or not your BIOS supports booting from a USB port. My laptop and one desktop does - but my daily workhorse (an older XP machine) does not.

Example . . . my Lenovo T60 has to be directed. Start power, hit "Blue" button, then F12 top select the boot device. Then it does it. Has nothing to do at all with the OS. Check the BIOS boot sequence.
