I was told that there is a program inthe Win2K CD that forces the O/S to tell programs that it's Win9x and not WinNT. Anynone know if this is true? If so, how do I use it?
Yep it only works "SOME" of the time though. Its called APCOMPAT.EXE and I believe its on the Win2k cd under utils (its been so long, I can't remember). I've used it several times and it has only worked once when using Need For Speed 3.
I installed N4S3 on win2k with out using appcompat. Check to see if the prog you want to use has an NT version or is NT compatible. Since most progs (not necessarily games) are, try the prog anyway to see if it will install. Almost all of my win9X progs work under win2k.
Thanx guys. 😀 Actually it's AtGuard the prog that I'm trying to install, and unfortunately there is no Win2K version for it since it was dropped before Win2K came out. 🙁
I'll let you know if it worked as soon as I get home and try it. 🙂
Forget @guard, it is now Norton home security or something like that. Get Zone Alarm instead. Its free and works great under win2k. Way better in my opinion than @guard will ever be for security.
I should probably post a new topic for this but thought I'd jump in here. I am trying to load an MS-DOS program onto win NT 4.0. but it says it can't load it. does any one know of something similar to the program described but for NT? This is the first time I have touched NT. If anyone had any input I'd appreciate it!
