Installing Win98 on a USB CDROM

Is this possible? We have a laptop that needs Win98 reinstalled and the only cdrom we can use for it is an external USB. Is there anyway to reinstall Win98 from scratch using a USB CDROM?

Yes you can...if you check the bios of your laptop...there should be an option of detecting your USB devices in DOS. If you try a boot floppy, I am not sure if it'll detect the USB ports...but if your bios supports the USB in DOS...you should be fine.

Hi,
There is another option. I have installed Linux and win98 on laptops using LAN configuration. You can network your laptop to your PC with dos and TCP/IP. It takes two or three floppies depending on how you install it. Then, simply copy the cab files from another PC's cdrom or HD and you'll be set. Is this an old laptop? If so, I suggest 98Lite. I run this program on an old P133 with a 1.4gb hd and it works great. I've lost the link to the DOS programs for networking, but you should be able to find them. If you are interested or need more info, please write back. Hope this helps.
As Always,
D
