Installing Win2k in DOS

I am going to format and I want to install Win2k from DOS. How would I go about doing this.

Run the winnt.exe in the i386 folder. Or you can either boot from the win2k cd, or make the win2k setup disks. You'll need 4 floppy disk for that. I personally think booting from the cd rom is the best way to install it.

Quick tip that you will thank me for...

During the win2k install. As soon as you see the "Hit F6 to load custom drivers" prompt, hold the F5 key for approx. 10 seconds, then let go. This will take you to a menu. Select "Standard PC" and hit enter. Then continue with a normal installation.

Depends ENTIRELY on the hardware whether what you're recommending is a good idea. W2K was made to run primarily on ACPI-compliant hardware. I have both types of systems. There's no question in my mind the ACPI HAL works best. Standard PC HAL should only be used as a last resort if you have conflicting hardware issues that arise as a result of IRQ steering on devices that can't be replaced with drivers that can't be made compliant. My $.02.
