Installing Win2k/IE6 hotfixes on multiple computers

Lets say that I have 1200 Win2k computers, most of which need Win2k and/or IE6 hotfixes applied to them.
Short of going to every single one and installing the hotfixes manually, be it from windowsupdate.com or from exe's that we have already downloaded from MS, is there some way to get them all up to date?

You could use group policy or SMS or something to "push" the updates so that they'd automatically get updated next time you rebooted those machines.

OK, I was thinking that it could be done with a group policy. The problems that may come up:
1. While I am admin on every one of these workstations, I can't touch the gpo's. The guys who do that stuff have them set the way they want, and are reluctant to change anything. They also are *very* busy with other things, which is why this is most likely falling to me within the next couple of weeks.
2. Not every machine is at the same level of updatedness. I suppose it'd be easy enough to run hfnetchk against them all to get a list of what needs what, but acting on those results is another story.
