I've been running win98se for awhile, now I'm going to run a dual-boot machine. any tricks to get programs to run fine w/ both but only installed once to a common partition?

C:-> win98
D:-> common/programs
E:-> win2k

oof...you're going to have lots of trouble w/ only one patition for common programs and apps unless you are very very careful.
i personally recommend installing common programs in both OS', just in case.

With most installation of programs, the installation process writes certain information to the Windows directory or registry... you will need those for the program to run properly... so most of the time you will have to install them twice, once in win98 and once in win2k...

However you can install the program in the same directory to share settings between both OS's...

BCYL -> that's what I was talking about, but now that I re-read my origial post, I sounded way off. I'm really just wondering if many progs will have problems if I already install them in win98 to my D: drive, then over write when I install from win2k. I'd have to think that the difference would be transparant to the OS's?
