Installing Win XP using a SATA DVD drive, possible?

I thought I was going to get stuck yesterday with this issue, but I just put the XP disk and everything worked like a charm. I was installing on a Gigabyte 965P DS3, LiteOn SATA.
 
my guess is the motherboard has more to do with it than anything. ( like how you can almost boot into windows 95 from a 10 year old 2G hard disk via usb, but if you plug that usb hard disk into a windows 95 machine it will just laugh at you.
