installing Win XP on SATA problem

QueBert

Lifer
Put a SATA HD in my box, enabled it in the BIOS. When it POST's the drive is detected, when I boot to DOS I can access the drive. I'm trying to install Windows XP on the SATA and make my IDE my secondary drive. When the Windows setup starts (I launch it winnt.exe from DOS) it doesn't give me the SATA drive as an option. I have an Nforce 2 MB (Gigabyte Ultra 400) and I don't see any DOS level drivers for SATA support.

What exactly should I be doing to get the Win setup to detect the Drive?

thanks.

1. Disconnect your IDE drive before running Windows setup. This will ensure that your SATA drive is assigned the C: drive letter.
2. Boot directly from the XP CD, and hit F6 when it prompts you to for third party drivers.
3. Insert a floppy disk with these SATA drivers (assuming that's your motherboard).
4. Windows will read the drivers, find the drive and allow you to format.

don't have a floppy in the case yet. I tried Slipstreaming the SIS SATA drivers into XP and installing. But it's giving me an error that "si3112.sys cannot be located" and it is in the i386 folder, and I followed the instructions on how to do it to the tee (twice)

so I gave up 🙂
