Installing Win Vista 64 with Intel ICH10R Driver

I've been in computers since 1990, built over 1200 systems, and this is the first time I have ever seen an issue like this, and have been unable to get ahold of Asus tech support after several tries. I have rarely needed help with a driver issue, but I just happen to have found a product that has put me there now for the first time in about 15 years or so.

I'm trying to install Vista 64 on this system:

Mobo: Asus P6T
BIOS Rev. 0603
Proc: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz
Chipset: X58 with Intel ICH10R RAID controller
RAM: 12GB Corsair Platinum Series PC1333 in Triple Channel Mode
Video: (2) eVGA GTS250 1GB in SLI
PSU Ultra 1000 Watt Triple Rail (Checks out good)
HDD's: (4) 1TB Seagate Barracudas

Vista 64 will not get past the driver install for the Intel ICH10R RAID controller at the beginning of install. It wouldn't do it with any of the BIOS revisions since the original with the mobo. I have tried it with different RAM, less RAM(with 2, 4, and 6GB configs), different HDD's, and it won't install the RAID driver, and won't let me past that screen to go ahead and install Windows Vista 64, and then load the driver after Windows is installed. So what gives? This is not what I'm used to with Asus products. I bought an Asus board simply because there are usually no issues like this. I have tried using the driver that came on the CD. I have tried the driver I dl'd from Asus, the latest versions, and the drivers right from Intel's site, and neither will install. I have tried doing the "make disc" recommended with the driver CD and loading from floppy, and tried loading from CD, and nothing works. And yes, I have verified that all of the necessary files are on the floppy when it has been made. I have even tried remaking the floppy 3 different times, with both the driver from the CD, and the one from Intel. No go.

You used to be able to depend on their product, and I haven't even been able to get through to their tech support for this issue.

Can someone help? I have even looked at all 16 pages of the Asus P6T mobo forum pages and no luck.

Hello,

I am facing the exact same problem with my Asus P6T Deluxe V2. Please let me know if you solve the issue. I am using 4 (1.5TB) Seagate disks as standalone AHCI disks.

- Does Windows find 'compatible' drivers off of a floppy/CD/thumb stick?
- Does Windows find compatible drivers, but it doesn't show any drives?

Either way, I'd suggest you clear the HDDs of what were in there previously. Preferably using a different system, or using a DOS tool. (floppy or CD) Quickly deleting the volumes or MBRs would do the job.

Also, if you're trying to build a RAID5 array, make sure you use the first 4 SATA ports stemming from ICH10R. Those would be SATA 0, 1, 2, 3. A LOT OF boards/manuals mis-label SATA ports. You may have to determine them by trial'n errors. (why manufacturers can't get things like this correct is beyond me)
