Installing Win ME on 98SE..Need Recommendations..

Well, I asked you guys about which OS is better, and i got the answer.

Now i need a little more help before i install it 🙂

The computer already has windows 98 SE installed on it. Its a messy installation, sluggish, error prone etc. With all the programs drivers etc.

I have 3 options:

1) Upgrade install: I install ON the 98 SE installation, overwriting it and getting all the settings automatically.
2) Fresh Install: Delete the 98 Installation and start from scratch.
3) Dual Install: Keep 98 the way it is, install Win ME in a new directory. Later, i can decide out which OS to use.

I think 3. What do you think??
If ME doesnt work with the hardware, I will need to revert back to 98. If i use the 3rd option, can i dual boot ? (like XP)

I would go with number 2. A clean install is always the best way to avoid trouble and get things cleaned up. It is also the easyest to setup. Just backup your old Win98 just in case and make sure you have all the drivers for your hardware. If for some reason you want to go back to Win98, you'll be able to put it back the way it was from the backup.

Huh, I've had a lot of machines with ME on my desk converting them back to 98SE. I've found that ME in most cases is an unstable mess.

I would also suggest a clean install if you decide to do this...

Wipe drive, Clean install...Only way to go.
