Installing Win 7 in a seperate OS partition

I'm installing Win 7 on a clean drive (my first PC build). Is there any advantage to partitioning the drive with a partition just for the OS? Is there any reason to partition at all? It's a 1tb Spinpoint.

I'm guessing that without a separate partition for my OS, I'll never be able to clone it if I switch over to a much smaller SSD for my OS.

That sounds good to me. I don't think on modern drives that partitions would slow down anything significantly.
