Installing W8 in Intel NUC

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...8-upgrade.html

"The software covered by this agreement is an upgrade to your existing operating system (XP SP3, Vista, or Windows 7) software, so the upgrade replaces the original software that you are upgrading." Microsoft in a chat informed me that the upgrade version is not the full version.

The NUC doesn't have any existing OS software to upgrade. It is being sold on Amazon without the OS. One must buy and install a SSD and then load the OS. Like how? I have a Upgrade media Product key for Windows 8 on a flash drive but its for a upgrade for a existing OS. There is no existing OS.

This probably has been discussed before but, if you have an a copy of XP, Vista, or Win7, shouldn't you be able to install it on the NUC, therefore qualifying it for the $40 upgrade price, even tho the NUC itself was purchased w/o an OS?

Also, if the above case is true, are we really just talking semantics if we avoid the install of the 1st OS and just go straight to Windows 8?

"The software covered by this agreement is an upgrade to your existing operating system (XP SP3, Vista, or Windows 7) software, so the upgrade replaces the original software that you are upgrading." This statement actually says nothing about the "existing operating system" actually being installed and operational, just that it "exists". And my retail box of Vista with it's DVD's and COA sticker certainly "exists".

So long as your copy of old Windows is retail (and thus, can legally be transferred to the new computer) then yes, you are correct. I don't think anyone is going to fault you for skipping the installation of the older OS first so long as you're properly licensed.

You can use a win8 upgrade and NOT install the previous op system by using the same procedure as for win 7 where you usse regedit to reset theregistry . google windows 7 install with a upgrade package. It worked for me I had a system with windows 7 and when I put in Windows 8 I disconnected my hard drive. installed a fresh ssd did the install to the ssd of windows 8 followed the instruction found on the net and activated win 8 . After everything was done I reconnected the hdd and copied files i wanted moved to the ssd. and reformated the drive. Clean windows8 install without putting previous version on the ssd.
