Installing Vista on drive C:

Is there an option to install Vista on a separate folder along WinXP rather than upgrade the old OS? I'd like to have both on the same partition, but avoid any collisions.

Any issues to consider?

There is no option to have Vista and XP on the same partition (other than virtualization) the next best option is to have Vista on it's own partition, XP in it's own, and a seperate partition for data.

e.g.
500GB
==100GB XP
==100GB Vista
==300GB Data

How significant is the order of partitions? I understand that the first (outer) partitions are the fastest, but is the difference really perceptible?

Are you intending to be able to dual-boot, or do you just want to maintain the old XP folder for some reason?
If you don't need to dual-boot, you can do a "clean" install of Vista on an existing partition, and it will move the existing installation into a Windows.Old folder.
