Installing Virtualbox Guest Additions

Running Virtualbox 4.3 under a Linux [Mint 17] host with a Windows 10 guest. Wanted to create a shared folder between host and guest, but the VB Help says I need to install Guest Additions. Surprisingly, this isn't clear on how to do this.

When I installed VB, I first installed the non-free version and then the regular (free?) version. I found the guest additions ISO in the LM17 Software Manager but it says the package impacts VB non-free (removes it). And sure enough it removes all VB installations.

So I removed the LM17 S/W Mgr installed guest additions ISO through the manager and reinstalled the non-free VB, and thankfully my Guest VM was there (never removed?). Now I am back where I started and trying to figure out how to get and install the Guest Additions ISO so I can create a share between host and guest.

Anyone?

That is the problem, I do not have the ISO. I cannot find it (ISO) on the VB website, and if I d/l from LM17's s/w mgr it uninstalls the main platform.

What happens if you try to do it from VB?

When I clicked it, it searched for the iso, and offered to download it. I canceled at that point. This is in Debian, with the free version of VB

Well, when I do it from the VB website the files have no file extension so I'm not sure what it is I am actually d/l. It is small, though, something like 10-20MB in size.

You may have to download the guest additions iso via your package manager.

I had to do that with Arch Linux.
