Installing thermal diode on cpu

Hey guys,
I have an aspire x-dreamer case which comes with a from mounted temp lcd and a thermal diode. I don't really trust the readings from my mobo sensor and I figured the most useful thing the diode could monitor is cpu temp. so I was wondering where the best location is to install the diode so it can monitor cpu temp accurately. I do remember that in the past, one could weave the wires around the pins on the bottom of the processor and mount the diode there but I feel that the spacing between the pins is too small to do that nowadays (Mobile Barton). Is there any other location I can mount the diode to accurately gauge cpu temp without damaging the cpu? If I stripped the wires in the diode It would probably fit but that would probably also short out the pins on the cpu. Any suggestions would be appreciated.. Unfortunately I was unable to find any kind of guide to do this kind of installation.

Connoisseur, w/ the 80mm fan that is on my heatsink, I have the thermal diode touching the copper base of my heatsink, it seem to work for me, YMMV 🙂

thx for the suggestion. out of curiosity are the temps at the copper base indicative of the cpu temp? is it accurate? Might be a stupid question but I'm no pro in thermodynamics.

Rule of thumb:

Core temp = X
Surface temp = X - 10 degrees C
Thermal grease temp = X - 15 degrees C
Heatsink base temp = X - 20 degrees C

That's extremely rough, but it's safe and mildly accurate. So if your heatsink base temp is showing up as 5 degrees above room temp, your CPU's core is likely 25 degrees above room temp.
